Love of the Land Show with Saro L-T

Facebook livestream

Join musicians Susan Pepper and Saro Lynch-Thomason as they perform songs old and new about wilderness, water and Appalachia. The coronavirus pandemic, with all of its stress and hardships, has also created an opportunity for many of us to connect more with the land around us, motivating us to discover new plants, listen to birds, and immerse in streams. In this concert, ballad singers Saro and Susan will take turns performing some of their favorite ballads, protest songs, and personal compositions that express love for nature and the southern mountains. And don't worry, there will be plenty of sing along songs as well!

I SING OLD SONGS
This music connects us to our ancestors and history and each other, no matter where we come from. I sing as a way to remember and honor past generations and to draw on the strength and beauty of their song and stories as we travel forward.

I am drawn to the melody, rhythm and quirky words--the old sounds--as much or sometimes even more than the story behind the song. And most of all it's the indescribable, soulful feeling behind the ballads that captivates me. It doesn't much matter whether a song is happy or sad, it's the singing that fills me up, and I wish that for anybody in earshot.

I worked for several years as co-producer of the Mountain Minor, an Appalachian music film--and also played the role of Sandra. This independent feature tells the story of a family’s migration from Eastern Kentucky to Southwestern Ohio, and the ways in which music sustains them across generations. Please click on this photo for more info.
