Susan was a 2017 Recipient of the Regional Arts Project Grant; she will be teaming up with Asheville film makers Joshua Overbay and Andie Morgernlander to make a new video featuring her music and work--coming April 2018!

Susan fell in love with ballads in the early 2000s. She learned directly from several amazing women in western North Carolina, and produced a recording of their ballads and folk songs. Susan explores Western North Carolina song traditions in her multimedia show, Music That Sustains, highlighting stories and songs from her mentors.

Susan currently teaches banjo and string band at two Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) programs in Jackson County, NC. She also leads workshops and programs on ballads and folk songs, banjo and dulcimer.
